NDIS
What is NDIS?
The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) commenced in July 2013 and is administered by the National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA). This affords all Australians under the age of 65 with a permanent and significant disability with the reasonable and necessary supports they need to enjoy an ordinary life.
People who are eligible for National Disability Insurance Scheme support are referred to as participants. Each participant will have their own NDIS plan that outlines the outcomes they aim to achieve, the services that will be funded by the National Disability Insurance Scheme and other supports the participant requires. This scheme has afforded people with disability the ability to choose where and how to access their supports. Funding is directly allocated to participant to acquire the services they need, instead of funding being directly applied to the service providers. Participants can now choose their preferred providers and can change providers at any time. For more information about the scheme visit: https://www.ndis.gov.au/
What will the NDIS fund?

- Core funding – covers functional support needs for daily living and to access community supports and activities.
- Capital funding – covers the purchase of one-off items such as equipment, technology or modifications and funding for Specialist Disability Accommodation.
